Shiny new shoes?
My neighbor’s four-year-old popped around last week to show off her own ‘shiny new shoes’ as she prepared to start school. It was a joy to see, them in her little summer dress uniform with matching gingham socks and scrunchie. Her pride and excitement were palpable. Made me so nostalgic that I dug out a picture of my own daughter (now age 22) on her first day of school.
I hope you’ve had some rest time over the summer and have that ‘shiny new shoes’ feeling!
I’ve always loved September
I’ve always loved September, as the leaves start to fall the air smells different, and the freshness of autumn begins. There is a sense of an ending, and the start of a new beginning, a new academic year. For me, September always feels like the start of a new year more than January does.
Seven years of Fiona Day Consulting this month!
September is also a birthday for my independent coaching practice which started in September 2016. This makes it my seventh birthday this year – I now have over 2,500 hours of coaching experience with over 400 senior medical and public health leaders! I am an expert in coaching doctors and coaching for public health leaders, offering career coaching and leadership coaching programs to meet your unique needs.
Feeling shiny or scuffed?
For many of my clients, September is also the start of the winter onslaught and survival mode. With the prospect of continued industrial action, and overstretched services, it’s easy to feel as if you’ve already scuffed your shoes – before you’ve even had a chance to enjoy the shiny new feeling.
In the face of the professional challenges that many of you face, don’t forget that ‘radical self-care’ is the foundation on which everything else is built.
I am an expert in supporting doctors and public health leaders to stay well at work and can help you to effectively address the system issues that you and your colleagues are facing. If you’re worried about your capacity to cope with the winter ahead, do get in touch with me.
